Natural Bamboo and Ebony Black Console Table with Slim Profile – 140cm

You come in out of the rain, drop the keys in the dish, hang the coat up. Behind you the hall table is holding a lamp that's already on, the day's post, and a mirror catching what light comes through the door. This is the piece that sets the tone before anyone gets past the threshold.

The top is bamboo, cut so the grain runs the full length of the 140cm surface and the directional figure stays legible from one end to the other. It's left in its natural tone — pale, warm, faintly golden — with an angular accent line sweeping across the upper section that follows the grain rather than cutting against it. Bamboo is technically a grass, and it comes out harder and more dimensionally stable than most timbers used at this size. It won't cup or twist the way a wide solid-wood top can when a hallway swings between cold mornings and warm evenings.

Underneath, a plywood structure carries the load. Cross-laminated, so strength runs in both directions and a 140cm span stays flat instead of settling into a sag across the middle over the years. The base is finished in deep ebony black, which does two things at once: it grounds the piece so the long top appears to float above it, and it takes the scuffs a hallway inevitably delivers at ankle height without showing them. Three years from now the part you'll still be looking at is the bamboo top, and that's the part built to hold its colour and its line.
