Picking a desk
A standard computer desk suits a spare-room setup. Tight on space? A corner desk uses a wall junction you weren't using anyway. Need it to hide clutter too? The desk-with-storage models fold drawers and shelving into the frame, so one piece does the job of two.
Sizing a coffee table
Match the height to your sofa seat — within a couple of inches keeps reaching for a mug comfortable. A lower, lighter coffee table keeps sightlines open so a small room reads bigger; for a round one, leave roughly 40cm of walking room around it.
Sizing a bookcase
