A wall mounted pergola — also known as a lean-to pergola — attaches to an external wall of your home and extends your living space straight out into the garden. It's the space-saving way to add a covered patio, dining or seating area that feels like part of the house.
- Saves space
Uses your house wall for support, so it needs fewer posts and a smaller footprint. - Extends your home outdoors
Creates a seamless covered link between house and garden. - A true lean-to design
One side fixes to the wall and the roof slopes away — the classic lean-to pergola shape. - Roof and canopy options
Choose a fixed roof, a PVC or polycarbonate cover, or a retractable canopy. - Aluminium or metal frames
Pick a rust-free wall mounted aluminium pergola or a steel frame for maximum strength. - Supplied as a kit
Every wall mounted pergola ships as a self-build kit with frame, fixings and instructions.
Customers choose a wall mounted pergola when they want shelter close to the house without giving up garden space to a standalone structure.
What Is a Lean-To Pergola?
A lean-to pergola is simply a wall mounted pergola: one side fixes to the wall and the roof leans away from the house at a slight slope. The shape sheds rain neatly and tucks the structure against the property, which is why a lean to pergola works so well over a back-door patio or along a narrow garden.
When a Wall Mounted Pergola Is the Right Choice
A wall mounted pergola is usually the better option if:
- You want the structure connected to the house
- You're working with a smaller patio or narrow space
- You'd rather it felt like an extension of your home
- You have a sound, load-bearing wall to fix to
If you'd rather place the structure anywhere in the garden, compare our Freestanding Pergolas.
Wall-Mounted vs Freestanding
The main difference is how the structure is supported.
Wall-mounted (lean-to) pergolas
- Fix to the house on one side
- Save space, smaller footprint
- Feel like part of the home
Freestanding pergolas
- Stand on their own four posts
- Position anywhere in the garden
- Need anchoring on all sides
Frames come as rust-free aluminium or heavier steel builds. Browse the wider Pergolas range to compare every style.
Fixing a Wall Mounted Pergola
1. Check your wall
You need a sound, load-bearing masonry wall. The pergola attaches via a wall plate (ledger) on that side.
2. Fix securely
Bolt the wall plate into the masonry with the heavy-duty fixings specified in the kit, then anchor the front posts to the patio or ground.
3. Choose your roof
Decide between a fixed roof, a PVC or polycarbonate cover, or a retractable canopy. For adjustable cover, see our Retractable Roof Pergolas.
4. Furnish the space
Pair it with seating from our Rattan Patio Furniture or Garden Furniture & Outdoor Living range.
